At this production, México 2000 Ballet Folklórico will present its new and spectacular artistic production “Mexican Traditions”. A journey through the culture of Mexico, a country with an ancestral mix of cultures and traditions that endure.
Dances and typical costumes from different regions will be exhibited on stage, creating an enchanted atmosphere of magic, light and color of our traditional Mexico.
Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo commemorates theBattle of Pueblaon May 5, 1862, a pivotal moment during theSecond French Intervention in Mexico. While the victory was temporary—the French eventually occupied Mexico City—it remains a powerful symbol of Mexican resistance and cultural pride.
This struggle for freedom is expressed through this elaborate dance performance—a stand against foreign domination and a celebration of liberation from the French yoke—which commemorates the end of foreign oppression, symbolizing Mexico's sovereignty and freedom.
Dia de Muertos
The Day of the Dead presentation typically take place around November 1st and 2nd, this performance feature vibrant and culturally rich traditions that pay tribute to deceased loved ones.
Key elements include adorned altars (*ofrendas*) decorated with marigolds and offerings; elaborated "Catrina" costumes (elegant skeleton figures); and performances such as pre-columbian dances and folkloric dances from diferent regions of Mexico.
Christmas in Mexico
Navidad en México. During 25 consecutive years México 2000 Ballet Folklórico under the direction of Mary and Alex Palencia will be presenting the play "Christmas in México” or “Navidad en México” a Pastorela-Dance.
This choreographic montage is the signature holiday performance titled "Christmas in México" (or Navidad en México)
The production is a vibrant representation of the Nativity, featuring over 70 performers who bring the story of Jesus Christ's birth to life through traditional Mexican folk dance and music.
The performance is structured into several symbolic episodes or PASTORELA:
The Annunciation: Representing the angel's message to Mary.
The Journey: Mary and Joseph's difficult travels to Bethlehem.
Shepherds & Temptation: A dramatic depiction of the devil attempting to distract the shepherds from the angel's guidance.
Traditional Festivities: Includes various regional Christmas songs and dances, the breaking of the piñata.
The Adoration: The offerings and arrival of the Three Wise Men.
Grand Finale: A celebratory conclusion set to "Joy to the World!" and "Feliz Navidad"!.
