Mexico 2000 Annual Productions

Our Production # 80 in 26 years!

  • In our production #80, students from the Mexico 2000 Folklorico Dance School and the Advance Company will showcase an array of traditional dance performances, including Huapangos Norteños from Coahuila and Nuevo Leon Linares, Sones Huastecos from Tamaulipas, a Wedding in Chilapa Guerrero, Bailes de Mocorito Sinaloa, Nayarit Costa, a Palenque in Jalisco, and a special representation featuring dances from Puebla!
  • Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, a pivotal moment during the Second French Intervention in Mexico. Although the victory was temporary—the French eventually occupied Mexico City—it remains a powerful symbol of Mexican resistance and cultural pride.
  • This struggle for freedom is expressed through this elaborate ballet folklorico performance—a stand against foreign domination and a celebration of liberation from the French yoke—which commemorates the end of foreign oppression, symbolizing Mexico's sovereignty and freedom.

Dia de Muertos /Day of the Death

  • Mexico 2000 presents: "Día de los Muertos" a spectacle that captures the spirit of the holiday as it is celebrated within the framework of this beautiful tradition.
  • The staging interweaves the traditions of the Day of the Dead—including the mystical altars erected in homes and cemeteries—with the vigils and festivities surrounding this celebration, which is fundamental to the life of the Mexican people.
  • The program features traditional dances that serve as a testament to local culture, among them the "Dance of the Butterflies," inspired by the monarch butterflies that return to this region year after year to spend the winter.
  • The dancers will perform clad in colorful costumes and makeup evocative of this tradition; some dances will adopt a tone that blends comedy and drama, incorporating recitations of *calaveritas* (witty verses) that parody Mexican culture and society throughout history. One segment of the event will feature dancers costumed as *Catrinas* and skeletons, performing the festive dances characteristic of this region.
